All Paws Matter event to raise money for local animal causes

Apr. 24—SHARON — All Paws Matter's biggest fundraiser of the year, the Spring Fling Basket Raffle, will be happening this weekend.

The event will run from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Sharon American Legion, 1395 E. State St., Sharon,.

All Paws Matter will direct funds toward animal-related organizations and needs in the community, said Kim Burdick, president of the nonprofit organization.

"We're strictly a fundraising organization, so we try to help wherever we can," Burdick said.

Since October 2016, All Paws Matter has financially supported a variety of causes, ranging from animal organizations to individual animals in need of emergency surgery whose owners are struggling financially, Burdick said.

The upcoming Spring Fling will give visitors a chance to see one of All Paws Matter's success stories in person — "Officer Taz," a K-9 with the Mercer County Sheriff's Office, wearing a bullet- and knife-resistant vest funded by All Paws Matter.

Taz and his human counterpart, Sheriff's Deputy Robert Lanshcak, will be present for at least a few hours Sunday to meet visitors, Burdick said.

Also offered at the Spring Fling will be more than 200 baskets and gift certificates, as well as two specialty raffles — a lottery board with more than $300 worth of scratch-off tickets, and a $500 Visa card.

The lottery board is sponsored by Ozinga Roof Systems of Sharpsville. The Visa card is sponsored by an anonymous supporter from the community, Burdick said.

Other attractions include a bake sale, food including hot dogs and All Paws Matter merchandise.

Previous events have drawn an "overwhelming" response from the community, with as many as 300 to 500 people attending.

"We've always done very well because of the community's support, and when we're able to present that check to an animal rescue or that family that can't afford a pet's surgery, that's probably the best part," Burdick said.
