Paulina Porizkova is sharing some brutal honesty while reflecting on her recent double hip replacement surgery.

In a new photo she shared Thursday on Instagram, the supermodel nearly bared it all as she stood before a bathroom mirror wearing a fuzzy pink robe. The robe was pulled open to reveal the new scars visible on both of her hips.

Porizkova wrote that she “couldn’t help but think” about those scars before she went in to have the surgery done. “The ones I have, I embrace,” her Instagram caption said. “But I have no desire to make new ones.”

Porizkova’s surgery announcement was unexpected for many fans who saw the 10-time Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model posting photos from her recent vacation in St. Barts just last week. In one vacation photo, Porizkova posed in a blue string bikini for her partner, producer and TV writer Jeff Greenstein, who traveled to the Caribbean island with her.

Soon thereafter, Porizkova told her fans that the wear and tear her hips have endured due to her congenital hip dysplasia diagnosis meant it was necessary for her to undergo surgery. She has posted a couple of recovery photos in the last few days, but her Thursday post marks the first time she has put her new scars on display.

“On our vacation, I kept saying goodbye to the smooth skin across my hip bones, even as I felt guilty for being vain,” she wrote. She recalled thinking carefully about what type of incision she preferred and being warned that they would “look gnarly” once she removed the bandages.

In addition to the mirror snapshot Porizkova posted, she also shared close-up photos of the scars, each of which appears to be around two or three inches in length.

“I know the incisions will soon become a part of me,” she wrote, adding that they will serve as “a reminder of old pain and new victories” as they join other seen and unseen marks on her body to become “the glue that holds me together, a netting of past fractures which have healed stronger.”

Though Porizkova wrote that she will “accept” her new scars, she reiterated that she has no interest in adding any more.
