Palisades Tahoe is welcoming spring with a jam-packed first weekend: both Pain McShlonkey and the Mothership Classic are happening this Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

The Pain McShlonkey Classic kicks off on March 23rd. Put on by The Shane McConkey Foundation, competitors will be donning their snowblades, dressing up in their most outrageous ski outfits, and coming together for rowdy skiing in celebration of legendary skier (and Palisades Tahoe legend) Shane McConkey.

The PMC also happens to fall on the exact same day as the International Snowblade Day to create an especially epic day.

This year, proceeds will go to various causes including the Scotty Lapp Foundation, Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe, Protect our Winters, Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and, of course, the Shane McConkey EcoChallenge.

The very next day, skiers will be lapping KT-22, also known as the Mothership, for a first-to-last chair fundraiser.

The Mothership Classic is a pledge-driven event hosted by The High Fives Foundation held each Spring on the world’s greatest chairlift. Participants begin by gathering pledges like NASCAR racer chasing sponsorships.

But there's a twist. On the day of the event, each participant will challenge themselves to hot lap KT-22 as many times as possible from first chair to last on skinny skis, retro snowboards, mono-skis, snow blades, etc. In other words, anything but modern or powder skis!

This is every ski tech's worst nightmare, so do not bring your indemnified list!

Nostalgic ski attire is encouraged.

Awards are given out for a variety of categories including most laps ridden, most money raised, best costume, and more.

All funds raised go directly to the healing efforts of athletes who have suffered life-changing injuries via The High Fives Foundation.

This will be a weekend to remember, and the forecast is looking promising, as well. 8-12 inches predicted on Friday, 3-5 inches on Saturday with 4-6 inches overnight, and a dusting of up to 2 more inches on Sunday.

Originally, forecasters were calling for rain at first, but judging by the temps, there is a chance it will be snow through-and-through.
