Some salty-sweet combinations just work—like Fruckies. Reviewers say the salty Fritos, sugar, corn syrup, and milk chocolate mixture is simply "scrumptious." When Courteney Cox bakes up the best chocolate chip cookies, a sprinkling of sea salt is the ingredient that puts them over the top. And who could have been upset with the salted caramel craze? Although the trend has calmed down a bit, salted caramel treats are thankfully now a permanent part of our culinary landscape.

But does every salty-sweet combination work? That's a question that some Oreo cookie fans are asking after learning about a new collaboration with Auntie Anne's.

Auntie Anne’s Oreo Topped Nuggets

A staple in mall food courts, Auntie Anne bakes pretzels on the premises. They're salty, buttery, and perhaps a bit sugary already. It's tough to track down the complete list of ingredients in Auntie Anne's products, although the company does divulge allergens on its website. Its bake-at-home soft pretzels do contain brown sugar, adding some evidence to the possibility that its mall pretzels may too.

Last year, the pretzel chain launched its first new pretzel nuggets in two years, a salty-sweet combo called Confetti Pretzel Nuggets. These nuggets feature Auntie Anne's signature nuggets topped with a sweet cookie crumble, rainbow sprinkles, and a dusting of sugar crystals. It was a limited-time offering, and the sweet nuggets disappeared from menus before the end of the year.

Now, it's trying another sweet nugget variety, Oreo Topped Nuggets, a cup full of Auntie Anne's nuggets drizzled with cookies-and-creme icing and topped with crushed Oreo pieces. Instagram's Snackolator posted that the new treat is in the test phase at select stores, but not all his followers are itching for them to show up at their local Auntie Anne's.

"Sounds like too much like confetti nuggets that didn't get sold out from our store," said one follower who seems to be an Auntie Anne's employee. "Hmmmm…you know how much I love Oreos, but I don't know if this works," commented another.

Other less-than-excited comments included "No thank you," "Yea no," and "This sounds gross."

Not everyone was as negative about the new collaboration, however. Snackolator himself said, "I just want a few cups of them immediately." Others commented on the Auntie Anne's x Oreo collab with "Now who came up with this? I'll take ten!" "Yummmm," and "WE NEEEDDDD THIS."

Of course, the only way to really know if this combination is good is to try it yourself, and if it does well at test stores, you may get the chance.
