A few years ago I decided I was ready to leave cheap, flimsy bathing suits behind. However, I also wasn’t totally sold (and still am not) on the idea that spandex and nylon should cost hundreds of dollars. While looking for a middle-ground, I discovered J.Crew’s swim section—and haven’t looked back since.

Over the past few years I’ve bought string bikinis, strappy one pieces, and retro-inspired two-piece suits from the brand that I then proceeded to wear summer after summer—a testament to the high quality. And with summer pretty much here, I’m ready to add at least one (or two) more to my collection.

After looking through J.Crew’s new swim arrivals, as well as its classic styles, these are the eight one-pieces and bikinis I’m eyeing, starting at $23.

Best J.Crew Swimsuits

1993 Underwire Bikini Top and Full-Coverage Bikini Bottoms

The very first swimsuit I bought from J.Crew was a darling gingham searsucker two-piece I spent all summer getting compliments on, which is why I’m now eyeing this gingham set that happens to be on sale. The 1993 top—a staple of the brand that’s available in 10 other colors—is designed like a bra, with underwire support, adjustable straps, and bra sizing. According to a DD-shopper, the top “gives good support and is comfortable,” while someone else wrote that it actually stays in place when they swim. As for the bottoms, they’re pretty simple, with a classic bikini cut and a full-coverage back.

Scoop-Neck One-Piece Swimsuit

You could never make me hate a scoop-neck one-piece. It’s classic, flattering, and won’t be out of style come next summer. J.Crew’s take on it features thick straps, a low back, and cheeky cut. One shopper called it “the best” swimsuit they’ve ever owned, noting that they love the built-in bra, while someone else wrote that it’s timeless and universally flattering.

Ruched Bandeau Bikini Top and High-Rise Bikini Bottom

High-waisted bikini bottoms are a favorite of mine. Not only do I adore the retro-inspired look, but I love how flattering the fit is as well as the coverage—and right now, I’m eyeing this pair of bikini bottoms as well as the matching top while both are on sale for $55. The top is a bandeau style with padding and removable straps. According to a 55-year-old shopper, the top is “perfect…for sunbathing, swimming,” and looking cute, adding that it “fits perfectly,” stays in place, and flatters their chest.

J.Crew is my go-to place for swimwear, so I’m grabbing one—if not more—new styles before summer arrives. Shop more of my picks, below.
