We’ve all been there: browsing the aisles at Trader Joe’s with our trusty shopping lists and finding one product after the next that wasn’t part of the plan, but absolutely gets thrown into the shopping cart. It’s an age old tale that never ceases to amaze oneself, and it doesn’t really help that Trader Joe’s enjoys taking advantage of our attraction to amazing food concoctions. Not that we are complaining or anything, because they’ve truly hit the bullseye on numerous occasions.
On an episode of Today that aired back in April, co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager exchanged their experiences while shopping at Trader Joe’s in which they identified some go-to favorites that they absolutely cannot leave the store without. As a precursor to their conversation, Hoda revealed in an issue of People magazine that her recent Trader Joe’s obsession has been the popular grocers’ Ice Cream Bon Bons.

“At the end of dinner, my kids say, ‘Can I have our chocolate round thing?,’” Jenna recalled. “There’s a tray of them, and last night I just started popping them. I was like, ‘This is what heaven is.’”
While discussing their TJ’s preferences, Jenna brought up how her daughter Mila requested only one thing for her 10th birthday: dumplings. “She wants dumplings from Trader Joe’s,” the co-host laughed. She then asks Hoda, “Have you had their dumplings?” After an audible reaction from the crew behind the camera, Jenna turns and asks the crew, “aren’t they SO good?!”
As they continue their conversation, Hoda brings up one of her favorites, TJ’s tilapia, while quickly interrupting Jenna to sing her praises for the deliciously prepared fish. “Wait, the crunchy tilapia at Trader Joe’s is to die for,” Hoda exclaims. “You air fry it for 15-minutes and,” she then imitates taking a bite while making a crunching sound, “a crunchy fish, like, not the sticks!”

Clearly the two co-hosts have spent plenty of time at the beloved grocery chain. And as their conversation was wrapping up, they both agreed on a fan-favorite dessert, the frozen chocolate bananas. “Did you see the chocolates?” Jenna asks Hoda. “The chocolate bananas, which I know you make, but you can buy them," the co-host excitedly revealed. Hoda then exclaims, “Buy them, buy them,” before admitting how “the ailes [at Trader Joe’s] are all so good.”
Who can’t relate to a mouth watering conversation about your favorite Trader Joe’s eats? And with a track record like the one TJ’s is boasting, there’s plenty more food to obsess over as we close out the year and head into a brand new one. Who knows what the quirky grocery chain has in store for us next?
