Old Forester Relaunches Limited-Edition High Angels' Share Whiskey

Old Forester first launched its 117 Series with High Angels’ Share back in 2021, forging a space for former master taster Jackie Zykan to focus on “experimentation and innovation.” The goal was to push the boundaries of the world’s longest continuously sold bourbon, and create a variety of bottlings bringing the brand into “uncharted territory.”

Zykan’s name was scrawled across the 117 Series label, “making this the first bottle in the brand’s more than 150-year history to feature a woman’s signature.” The Warehouse K bourbon release followed, and then Zykan left to pursue her own whiskey dreams. Old Forester pushed on with the series, launching a number of new bottlings, including Bottled-in-Bond, Warehouse H, and Whiskey Row Fire (though these did not carry her signature).

Now, Old Forester is returning to that first celebrated offering in the 117 series, High Angels’ Share, with a new revival. A result of low-yield barrels, the whiskey arrives at 110 proof (55 percent ABV) and provides imbibers a rare opportunity to taste bourbon from specific barrels that showcase this particular facet.

"When walking into our aging warehouses, the aroma of evaporating whiskey is immediately evident," says Old Forester assistant master distiller Caleb Trigo. "That smell is commonly called angel's share—the angels taking their portion of the bourbon. Barrels with high evaporation concentrate flavors. We are pleased to bring those flavors directly to consumers through this unique bottle." This is also the first release for Old Forester since Trigo started his position in February.

A burnt orange in color, the whiskey offers aromas of caramelized citrus, brown sugar, oak, and pumpkin spice. The palate delivers more oak and citrus alongside hints of caramel and coconut. The finish is long, with notes of caramel and citrus.

Old Forester High Angels’ Share is priced at $60 per 375ml bottle and is also available in a two-bottle set for $120.
