Ocean City, Berlin indie stores are great spots to celebrate Independent Bookstore Day

It's time to crack open  no, not a cold one  a book!

Saturday, April 27, also known as Independent Bookstore Day, is a one-day festivity that takes place at independent bookstores across the country.

This year, a handful of local indie bookstores are celebrating in a special way  with a bookstore crawl.

Check out these five local businesses all found on the Eastern Shore where bookworms of all ages can gather together to celebrate all things books.

1. The Buzzed Word, Ocean City

Dive headfirst into the wonderful world of books at The Buzzed Word, located at 11805 Coastal Highway, Unit C, in Ocean City, Maryland. The Buzzed Word, owned by Mickie Meinhardt, is more than just a bookstore. That's right  The Buzzed Word is also a natural wine store and bar.

Beachgoers are invited to "sip, savor, shop, discover, and enjoy" at The Buzzed Word, a woman-owned and operated business which offers hand-picked diverse book and wine suggestions, as well as a monthly book club, wine tasting classes, and an array of bookish products and artwork.

2. The Greyhound, Berlin

Be sure to also check out The Greyhound, an indie bookstore located at 9 S. Main St. in historic downtown Berlin, Maryland. The Greyhound offers patrons a wide array of book selections, including New York Times bestsellers, classics, children's books, Delmarva authors and more.

Support independent bookstores and unleash the magic of reading at The Greyhound  which is, in fact, named after the dog breed. The local bookstore, owned and operated by couple Maury and Susan Wimbrow, has been a popular book lover's destination since October 2018.

3. Bethany Beach Books, Bethany Beach

The state of Delaware is also home to countless independent bookstores, with Bethany Beach Books having proven to be a standout. Continue your bookstore crawl at this local-owned business, which sits just steps away from the Bethany Beach Boardwalk and vast Atlantic Ocean.

Bethany Beach Books, located at 99 Garfield Parkway in none other than Bethany Beach, hosts over 100 events each year, year-round. Book lovers can also get in on the fun at The Book Drop, an extension of Bethany Beach Books found at 38017 Fenwick Shoals Boulevard in Selbyville.

4. Caprichos Books, Ocean Pines

Discover your next favorite read at Caprichos Books, located at 11310 Manklin Creek Road, Unit 4, in Ocean Pines, Maryland. Caprichos Books, yet another business taking part in the upcoming bookstore crawl, offers customers a wide selection of new and used books for sale.

Need a break from book browsing? Patrons can also indulge in a puzzle or board game. The local bookstore accepts donations of used books, board games, puzzles and craft supplies. Books that are not sold in-store are added to little free libraries or recycled in a meaningful way.

5. Sundial Books, Chincoteague

Sundial Books, located at 4065 Main St. in Chincoteague, Virginia, isn't missing out on the upcoming Independent Bookstore Day fun. Bookworms, be sure to stop by this bookstore for a bagful of books (or even a copy of the beloved Misty of Chincoteague).

Sundial Books was founded by Jonathan and Jane Richstein in 2007. The local bookstore offers a warm atmosphere and features an array of products, including a large selection of new and used books, new and used CD's, unique bookish gifts, cards and local artwork.
