NWHW: Columbus Health Dept. offers tips to women on how to live healthier

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) – This week is considered and celebrated as National Women’s Health Week (NWHW) and the Columbus Health Department provided tips on how women can live longer healthier lives.

National Women’s Health Week starts on Mother’s Day and lasts through May 18. The national week-long celebration aims to educate and encourage women to take control of their health.

The Columbus Health Department provided the following tips to help women live healthier lives:

  • Visit a health care professional to receive regular checkups and preventive screenings, such as a Pap test which screens for cervical cancer, and a mammogram for women aged 40 and older.

  • Eat a nutritious diet.

  • Get at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity a day.

  • Avoid risky behaviors, such as smoking, heavy drinking, distracted driving and not wearing a seatbelt.

  • Pay attention to your mental health, including getting enough sleep and managing stress.
