Nike and ‘Fortnite’ Launch New Island, Skins and More for Air Max Day

As part of its Air Max Day celebrations, Nike has partnered with “Fortnite” to launch their second assortment of in-game content Tuesday night.

A new Airphoria Vol. 2 map is centered around Nike’s Dynamic Air technology, which features in the newly launched Nike Air Max Dn, and hosts an objective in which players need to gather collectables to save the character Max and the world of Airphoria.

A new set of cosmetics has also been added and includes the Eclipse and Airphorian, skins both of which are wearing the Air Max Dn. Eclipse is a translucent female character with neon streaks and outfit choices in black or white, while Airphorian is a blobbed character with multiple styles. Both outfit choices for Eclipse include the Air Max Dn, but additional options for Airphorian also include the Air Max 95 and Air Max Plus Drift.

Both two skins can be purchased individually or as part of the Nike Airphoria Vol. 2 Cosmetic Set, which also includes a “Fresh Out the Box” emote and a special “Van n’ Hack” pickaxe.

The latest wave of Nike x “Fortnite” content will be available in the game through April 2.

Nike’s first foray into “Fortnite” came last summer through a similar package of content. For a week, players were able to visit the Airphoria island, which was modeled after some of Nike’s most iconic Air Max styles. Those who played on the island for 10 minutes or more were given an Air Max 1 bling that could be worn by their character, while there was another cosmetic pack that could be purchased and included skins, an emote and more pickaxes.

Collaborative apparel also released in real life to coincide with the initiative, continuing a wider embrace of the gaming sector by brands in sneakers, streetwear and even high fashion.

Jordan Brand has been involved with “Fortnite” even longer, with in-game sneaker drops beginning in 2019. Nike and Jordan fixture Travis Scott also partnered with the video game for a robust experience including a virtual performance by the rapper.
