Nicole Richie Makes a Fabulous Red-Carpet Return in an Artful Little Black Dress

While Nicole Richie may be best known for her reality-show era, her early-’00s fashion made her a style icon, along with the likes of fellow Y2K stars Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and the Olsen twins. So when Richie returned to the red carpet this week, she unsurprisingly nailed it.

For the premiere of her new Netflix film Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead—a remake of the 1991 comedy starring Christina Applegate—on Tuesday night, Richie wore a little black dress courtesy of Schiaparelli. The elegant strapless minidress was crafted from a body-hugging material with subtle lines going down the center, and featured a halter-style neckline with a decorative piece of golden hardware (a classic touch for the haute couture house).

The golden accoutrement included a heavy link chain that wrapped around Richie’s neck and connected to a sculptural piece shaped like a tadpole, composed of diamond pins and one giant fake eye.

The House of Harlow 1960 creative director and her stylist, Jamie Mizrahi, paired the straight-backed LBD with a pair of black stiletto heels, as well as a set of gold-and-black stud earrings. Meanwhile, Richie’s hairstylist, Gregory Russell, tied her skunk-colored locks into a tight bun on the top of her head.

On the red carpet, Richie made a rare appearance with her husband, Joel Madden, and their two kids: Harlow, 16, and Sparrow, 14. The family all coordinated in black, with Madden wearing a jet-black bomber over a tee and joggers, as well as a flat-brimmed cap. Meanwhile, Harlow sported leather pants and a mesh corset-style top, while Sparrow donned a polo over an undershirt, which he paired with black jeans. Richie was also supported by her parents, Lionel Richie and Brenda Harvey Richie, who divorced in 1993. Lionel’s girlfriend, Lisa Parigi, was also present.
