The holidays can be a stressful time, and not just because of the high expectations with a side of family drama. Thanksgiving and Christmas also fall during peak cold, flu and COVID season, which can really throw a wrench in holiday plans.

Model and actress Nicole Ari Parker, known most recently for her role in the Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That knows this all too well. Last year, both of her parents had COVID over Thanksgiving.

Luckily, they were vaccinated, so their symptoms were mild. But Parker, 53, is all about staying healthy when the cold weather and viruses start rolling in, which is why the first thing she does is make sure she stays up to date on her vaccinations.

That's not all she does, though: Parker also has some very important lifestyle tips she wants everyone to know about. "Zip up your jacket—I'm a mom, so I'm always saying that—and eat your vegetables."

Parker's onto something: Studies show that people who don't get enough nutrition are more likely to get sick, and that excess weight may also cause a weakened immune system and make someone more vulnerable to getting the flu.

And while not wearing a jacket can't actually make you sick—only a virus can make you sick!—if you're already sick, going outside when you're not warm enough may make you sicker, or stop you from healing as quickly.

In other words, this is advice we're definitely getting on board with when it comes to staying healthy over the holidays!
