Known for his erratic, offbeat, often borderline disturbing performances – not to mention his prolific, 100+ film résumé – Nicolas Cage is a Hollywood legend.

And his latest project sees him treading into foreign territory: surfing. The film, entitled The Surfer, which is being billed as a thriller, will see Cage battling against a gang of Australian surfers, as we previously reported when news of the movie first dropped.

Now, there’s a casting call for young, local surfers in Margaret River, Western Australia, to star alongside Cage in the upcoming project.

Per a report from ABC,

“The call-out said teenage boys would play young surfers who hung out with a surf gang.

“‘We are looking for kids who are really confident with a bit of 'attitude' ... we see them riding their BMXs delivering beer and generally causing trouble around town,’ the call-out said.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, here’s the film’s synopsis:

“In The Surfer, when a man (Cage) returns to his beachside hometown in Australia, many years since building a life for himself in the U.S., he is humiliated in front of his teenage son by a local gang of surfers who claim strict ownership over the secluded beach of his childhood. Wounded, ‘The Surfer’ decides to remain at the beach, declaring war against those in control of the bay. But as the conflict escalates, the stakes spin wildly out of control, taking ‘The Surfer’ to the edge of his sanity.”

As for the casting call, Margaret River Senior High School drama teacher Amy Johnstone told ABC:

"As soon as we found out, we put it out in the school notices, and we had a stack of boys lining up at our office door by recess, these guys are pumped to be in a movie.”
