Nervous Pup Recently Brought to West Virginia Shelter Has Most Precious Reaction to Ear Rubs

Animal care workers do everything in their power to figure out what will make the dogs and cats that arrive to their shelters feel more safe and secure, and in this video posted on September 1 a kind shelter worker demonstrated how she made a nervous Chihuahua named Chalupa relax.

The clip shared by the TikTok account for @Adoptcharleston shows the tiny nervous Chihuahua getting a relaxing ear spa rub treatment while he chillaxes in a baby carrier. His little tongue is just too much! This baby couldn't be any more relaxed if he tried!

TikTok users are here for this zoned out baby, and @Lindsay comments, "Lil’ Man is so relaxed and happy! I wish all shelter fur babies could see this level of love." @Jennifer responds, "Ear rub coma!" @Debbie adds, "He is in heaven. Loving every minute of it." @Leigh hilariously suggests, "You hypnotized him!!"

Their actually is a very simple reason why pups (and cats!) love head and ear scratching so much , and that's because it's impossible for animals to touch their heads with their paws, much less lick them!

Leni Kaplan, a lecturer and clinician in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in Ithaca, New York, was quoted in the above article as saying. "Still, "I find that most dogs (especially when their owners are handling them), love their head and ears scratched — it is a sign of affection, bonding and attention. Dogs that are not properly socialized, or that tend to be afraid of new people or situations, might not like to have their heads scratched, Kaplan said. This also goes for dogs that are bopped on the head as a form of punishment, she added."
