When Is National Waffle Day?
National Waffle Day falls on August 24 every year. If you thought that National Waffle Day was on March 25, you are somewhat correct. That day is actually International Waffle Day and is celebrated by European countries as well.

History of National Waffle Day
The very first waffles were made in ancient Greece and were a thinner, less sweet version of what we eat today. The cooking method was different too. It wasn't until the 15th century that the Dutch began to use gridded plates to make waffles. They brought this idea to America in the early 1600s and in 1869 the first stovetop waffle iron was made in America. The U.S. patent was earned on August 24 by Cornelious Swarthout. National Waffle Day is a way to commemorate that achievement.
National Waffle Day also includes sweeter, thicker Belgian waffles. The Belgian or "Brussels waffle" as it was originally called, first came to the U.S. during the World's Fair in 1962. It took a couple of years for this waffle to take hold and it became more popular after the name was changed to Belgian waffle.
