Mysterious Airplane Seats Wash Ashore in New Jersey After Historic Swell (VIDEO)
The surf world and beyond is still roiling, sifting through clips and edits and heavy waves and hectic wipeouts, from the historic New Jersey swell on Dec. 18, 2023.
Some locals are even calling it the biggest waves in Jersey history.
And with all that activity in the ocean, previously unseen debris and clutter and detritus came ashore with it. But how ‘bout this mysterious, potential plane wreckage?
“I think I just found plane seats washed up on the Jersey shore,” wrote actor Matthew Jacob showing the curious remains in the video above on Instagram.
PEOPLE magazine (online) got the exclusive interview with Jacob:
“Matthew Jacob was out checking the waves for good surfing conditions after a storm in Margate, N.J. on Dec. 19, when something caught his eye by the water, he tells PEOPLE. ‘I wasn’t sure what it was. I thought it was a tree branch at first. As I got closer, I realize that I was looking at seats. The closer I got they appeared to be plane seats,’ says the actor, who will soon appear in the Al Pacino film Killing Castro.”
Commenters (or conspiracy theorists?) on the post started speculating.
Was the wreckage from the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 on March, 8th 2014? What about the doomed TWA Flight 800, which crashed in the Atlantic Ocean about on Long Island on July 17, 1996. All 230 people onboard were killed.

Jacob continued to PEOPLE:
"After reading many comments on TikTok I am unsure what to believe anymore.
"It seems like everyone has a different theory. I spoke to a police officer when he picked up the seats. He was shocked. You can hear him in my TikTok video completely surprised."
