Mural surrounds breakfast room with indoor-outdoor charm
Designer Drew Cauley thinks about design in a multidimensional way, and it shows in everything he does.
As the owner of Design Resource Gallery, he's able to assist both designers and retail clients by pulling real samples of fabrics, wallpaper, paint and more -- instead of relying on a flat computer screen.
When it came to designing his breakfast room, he wanted to bring that connectivity to life in his own home, too.
What started as an idea to create a mural on all walls, the focal point of the home has turned into an oasis that morphs the look inside into what's outside.
Using a farmhouse landscape with rolling hills, green pastures and a beautiful sunset amongst clouds as a backdrop, he adds natural wood elements to bring the furniture into focus.
Three tips to achieve this look
Layering is the best way to achieve a look of cozy comfort, especially when you accent with different patterns like the leopard print and plaid we used here.
Using a bold wall covering is great for the “Wow!” factor and is married nicely with neutral earth elements such as the natural woods and teak. The farmhouse mural was hand-painted by Adam Schrimmer at Blank Canvas Mural Company.
Funky lighting is a fantastic way to bring personal style to any room. A Currey and Company chandelier evokes a rain cloud and complements the breakfast room landscape.
