Muddy Waters Clay Center to host Spring Showcase this week

Apr. 30—GRAND FORKS — The Muddy Waters Clay Center will host its annual Spring Showcase this week.

Hours for the showcase are: Thursday, May 2 — 3-8 p.m.; Friday, May 3 — 1-8 p.m.; and Saturday, May 4 — 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The clay center is at 2014 13th Ave. N.

Visitors are welcome to come in and shop for unique gifts, clever garden decorations and hand-thrown pottery, said Dianne Paulsen, a clay center member.

They may also tour the studio, meet the artists, enjoy light refreshments and register for door prizes.

The works of 40 ceramic artists will be displayed for sale. Six of the artists, who are exhibiting for the first time, are displaying new ideas and techniques, Paulsen said.

Various techniques were used to create the artworks, which include decorative and functional pieces, such as vases, bowls and cups. They were crafted using hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques, and use "great glaze colors, some new," Paulsen said.

"Artists are always working on new ceramic techniques and producing unique pottery, sculptures and glaze combinations," according to the clay center's website. "Our artists each have a unique style — you will see a lot of variety in ceramics arts when you visit our gallery."
