Mt. Baker Ski Area Confirms 2024 Closing Day
This morning, Mt. Baker Ski Area, Washington, confirmed that it would close for the season on April 21st.
There are now just less than two weeks of skiing and riding left at Mt. Baker.
The resort will remain open seven days a week through April 7th. Beyond the 7th, an altered spring schedule begins, with lift-accessed skiing available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
On its website, Mt. Baker noted that these scheduling plans "may change without notice" depending on the weather and snow conditions.
According to NOAA, partly cloudy conditions are expected at Mt. Baker today, and snow could appear throughout the week and weekend.
Mt. Baker—and Washington as a whole—has had a difficult ski season. In early February, the resort was hurting for snow. However, the end of February and March brought a turn in fortunes as much-needed powder arrived.
"Winter is back! It's so great to see coverage all the way down the mountain again," Mt. Baker wrote in an Instagram post shared on February 27th.
So, despite the heartache, local skiers still had several opportunities to get out and shred some powder this winter. And with a La Niña developing, next winter could be less of a dud in the Pacific Northwest.
