Moth Night at Mockingbird Park

Apr. 25—At 8 p.m. on Friday, April 26, Indian Trail Master Naturalists is sponsoring Moth Night at Mockingbird Nature Park, 1361 Onward Rd. in Midlothian. Come help the Indian Trail Master Naturalists kick off the 2024 City Nature Challenge.

The event will have special lights and nets set up to attract and photograph moths, insects, and creatures of the night. Attendees can become a community scientist with the totally cool iNaturalist app. iNaturalist is an online social network of people sharing biodiversity information to help each other learn about nature. The app allows one to identify, document, and share plants, insects, and animals using the app and an iPhone camera.

Sam Kieschnick, an Urban Wildlife Biologist with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, who has over 120,000 uploads in iNaturalist, will be joining the event to help with species identification. This is a family friendly event. Bring a flashlight and enjoy the park in the dark.
