Mom Teaches Parrot How to Moonwalk Like Michael Jackson

Pets can be taught a lot of different tricks, but how often do you see a pet learn cool dance moves? Goober and the Mouse's mom taught Goober, her Caique parrot, how to moonwalk, and fittingly, she refers to her as Goober Jackson!

Not only did Goober's mom teach her to moonwalk, but she also taught her to do it on command. She shared a video of the pretty parrot dancing like Michael Jackson at the beginning of January 2024. Goober is on top of the fridge, and her mom says simply, "Do a moonwalk" and Goober starts moonwalking to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean"!

Totally adorable! I have no idea how she taught the Caique to do it, but it's the cutest thing I've seen this week! I wasn't the only one who got a kick out of @Goober's cool dance moves - the video went viral and has more than 7 million views, over a million likes, and thousands of comments. Commenter @Whitley got more than 36 thousand likes when they pointed out, "That’s not a parrot. That’s Macaw Jackson!" Others couldn't help but laugh at how Goober had her head down as she danced just like Michael Jackson, like the commenter who said, "The head down and the way she cuts corners LOL!"

Other Pets Who Have Learned to Dance

Caiques may not be known as for their talking skills, but they sure have some dance skills! There are lots of other pets who enjoy getting their groove on, too. Check out this dog who dances like he's in the club. This cute Cockatoo can dance better than I can, and this cat rocking out to rap will make you want to get up and dance.

I've seen birds like Goober before, but didn't know they are called Caique parrots, and I don't really know anything about them. I did a quick search to see if I could find out if they make good pets, and it turns out it really depends on who you ask. According to Goober's mom (in another video) they are known to be big goofballs, the class clowns of the parrot world. They love attention and they're extremely playful. Sounds like fun, right?

But according to AvianVets.org, as these birds get older, their personalities can change and the fun-loving bird you enjoyed as a baby can grow into a stubborn and demanding bird. They like attention, and when they don't get it, they will tear and destroy things if they don't have enough toys to keep them busy. If you have more than one bird, they will fight with them.

Another thing that may be a turnoff, they are noisy. They yell and scream when they want attention, which sounds like always. They can learn how to mimic sounds they hear, but they are not talkers.

As with any pet, you need to do your own research to decide if it's a good fit for your family. Many things I read said that Caique's are not good for people who have never owned birds before while others say they are. If you're considering one as a pet, you might want to reach out to people who already have one and get their feedback first.
