Moleskine and the Moleskine Foundation Present the Traveling Exhibition of Artists’ Notebooks
During Milan Design Week and until May 14, Moleskine and the Moleskine Foundation are presenting “Detour,” a traveling exhibition featuring more than 100 notebooks of artists and writers.
Staged inside the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana museum, the cultural project features personal luxury notebooks of artists such as Giorgia Lupi, Antonio Marras, Pascale Marthine Tayou and Joana Vasconcelos.

The mission of the Moleskine Foundation, a nonprofit organization, is “creativity for social change,” aiming to inspire, encourage and connect young people to transform themselves and their communities through creativity.
The collection of notebooks includes more than 1,600 unique works, created by artists who contributed to increase awareness of creativity as a tool for social change. “Detour is a celebration of human diversity and creativity,” says Daniela Riccardi, chief executive officer of Moleskine. “Each notebook tells a unique story, echoing the background and vision of the artist who created it. We are thrilled to bring this extraordinary exhibition to Milan, a city that perfectly embodies the spirit of innovation and creativity.”
Also on April 22, Moleskine will launch its new campaign “Pen and paper,” which will focus on bringing back handwriting. It draws inspiration from several studies conducted by renowned scientists and scholars, such as professor Audrey Van der Meer, whose work has shown that both children and adults learn more and remember better when they write by hand.
The studies of professors Hetty Roessingh, Kristin Wilcox and Owen Ruderman are also included. Their studies and quotes are graphically represented on the posters created for the campaign, which number 200, each drawn by hand and placed around the city of Milan.
