Mobile Public Library keeping reading cool with summer celebration

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Registration is opening next week for the Mobile Public Library’s Summer Library Celebration.

Those interested can register at any Mobile Public Library location or online.

Registrants will receive a summer activity booklet highlighting the performers, events, and programs scheduled for June and July.

The summer library celebration will feature activities for all ages including special performances, reading challenges, crafts, games, and more. Here is a schedule of some events for the celebration:

  • June 3-6: Ron Anglin Juggler – “One of a Kindness”

  • June 10-13: Wayne Curtis and the Mobile Alabama Africatown Drummers

  • June 24-27: Puppets N’ Banjos with David Stephens

  • July 8-11: Mobile Environmental Studies Center’s Wildlife of Mobile Road Show

  • July 15-18: Excelsior Band

  • July 22-25: Dancing Story Lady – Deborah Ferguson

Here is the weekly schedule for each library location during the celebration:

The Mobile Public Library’s “summer reading challenge is simple and for all ages: read for 400 minutes and receive a challenge completion prize and an entry into the grand prize drawing,” the release said.

Children and teenagers who read 400 minutes will earn an animal plush keychain, and adults who read 400 minutes will receive a metal Mobile Public Library bookmark.

Readers can track their reading time through the free Beanstack app or by picking up a reading log at a local library.

“The grand prize for each age group is a bicycle sponsored by Adventure Earth,” the release said. “Winners will visit Adventure Earth to pick out their very own personal bike.”
