New milkshake bar opens in Baton Rouge with vegan friendly, lactose-free options

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Robin McKnight, the owner of Milkshake Mack, thought Mid City needed a sweet shop. So, she opened one.

The milkshake bar has over 40 flavors. It also has lactose-free and vegan options. McKnight said she has always loved milkshakes, but dairy started to bother her as she got older.

“Our milkshake mix and milk that we use are lactose-free unless you add the whipped cream,” she said.

Instead of lactose-free milk, you can also use oat, coconut or almond milk.

There is also the option to create your milkshake. McKnight said customers can choose their base milkshake flavor, chocolate, strawberry or vanilla. They can add different flavors, like cheesecake, blueberry, amaretto, brown sugar or sour candy.

“We have Oreos, brownies and Biscoff cookies as well as real fruit mix-ins. We also have Signature Shakes if you want a simpler option,” she said.

She said a few best-sellers have been the Jazz Berry Cheesecake, Cajun Berry, Pineapple Buzz, Caramel Coffee Delight and Chunks of Chocolate.

The name comes from her last name, McKnight.

“And we sell the best milkshakes. So, Milkshake Mack seemed fitting,” she said.

They also serve cold coffee and milk tea.

Milkshake Mack opened next to Elsie’s Plate and Pie on April 6. McKnight said it was an experience.

“The neighborhood and the neighboring businesses showed up and showed all the love. It has been a great first week, a lot of satisfied customers,” she said.

Milkshake Mack is at 437 Hearthstone Drive and is open 1-7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
