Mike Tyson is laser-focused on his upcoming fight with Jake Paul. The former champ is so determined to have a good outcome that he's eliminating some vices from his daily life until he hits the ring.

In an interview on The Damon Elliott Show posted April 27, Tyson revealed that he's given up cannabis and sex. "Two and a half weeks I haven’t smoked," he said. "And I haven’t had sex for two and a half weeks." It's a big step for Tyson, who's an avid marijuana aficionado and has his own line of cannabis products.

Tyson explained his approach in a Forbes Life interview published April 26.

"Right now, I’m living my life disciplined. It’s been six weeks that I haven’t gotten high or had sex,” he said. “I haven’t done that since I was a little kid."

“I hate not being able to smoke, but I’m doing it like I love it," he added. "I hate not being able to sleep with my wife but I'm doing it like I love it."

It's not the first time Tyson has eliminated vices from his life in hopes of improving his performance in the ring. In a 2018 interview on In Depth with Graham Bensinger, the champ confirmed he'd abstained from sex for about five years. He claimed it was because he was advised it would improve his boxing performance.

"[I did it] because I'm an idiot," he said. "It's so stupid. I just went by what people told me."

As for his renunciation of cannabis, a rep for Tyson told USA Today that he was giving up smoking so he complies with the rules set for his fight with Paul. Marijuana is among the substances banned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which oversees combat sports in the state.

Mike Tyson and Jake Paul will face off for their long-awaited match at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on July 20.
