FIS Alpine announced on X (formerly Twitter) that USA's Mikaela Shiffrin won her eighth slalom Crystal Globe, marking another milestone in her legendary career.

Mikaela Shiffrin returned to the World Cup after a brief hiatus when she crashed in the downhill at Cortina d’Ampezzo and hurt her knee. Later, it was determined that she strained her meniscus.

With only three "close to normal" training sessions over the last seven weeks while she was injured, it came as a surprise to many that the athlete secured first place in the slalom race on Sunday, March 10th.

Shiffrin won the latest slalom event in Åre, Sweden, by 1.24 seconds, clinching a record-tying eighth career slalom Crystal Globe.

Zrinka Ljutic from Croatia placed second, and Michelle Gisin from Switzerland came in third.

This eighth Crystal Globe ties Shiffrin with USA's Lindsey Vonn and Swedish racer Ingemar Stenmark, who also hold eight Globes.

Stenmark’s are for giant slalom and slalom events. Lindsey Vonn’s are in downhill, and Austrian racer Marcel Hirscher also has eight overall crystal Globes.

There is one last slalom at World Cup Finals in Saalbach, Austria, on March 16 for the women alpine racers this season.
