Mick Fanning Welcomes Second Child, Shortly After Brother’s Tragic Passing

Mick Fanning has just welcomed a new baby girl to his family. According to an announcement on Instagram, Fanning and his partner, Breeana Randall, welcomed their new baby, named Lyla Skye Fanning, on April 4th.

The new addition will be the second child for Fanning and Randall. Their first child, Xander Dean, was born on August 10th, 2020.

The announcement comes shortly after tragic news for the Fanning family. At the end of March, Mick’s older brother, Edward, passed away in Madagascar, where he lived and worked. Later on, it was revealed the cause of death was a cut to his foot that became severely infected and led to heart failure. Ed’s life was celebrated in a ceremonial paddle-out at Snapper Rocks, the famed Gold Coast surf break. The event was the third time Fanning had suffered the loss of a brother. In 2015, Peter Fanning died in his sleep from a health condition, and Sean Fanning was killed in a Coolangatta car crash in 1998.

As befitting Mick’s status as a three-time world champion and surfing legend both in his homeland of Australia and around thew world, many fellow surfers took to social media to congratulate the couple on the new addition to the Fanning family.
