Mick Fanning Welcomes New Baby Girl After Sudden Loss of Older Brother

Some much-needed good news for the Fanning clan.

Mick, three-time surfing world champion and living legend inside and outside the sport, has welcomed a new baby daughter with his partner, Breanna Randall.

Lyla Skye Fanning was born on April 4th, 2024.

This will be the second child for Mick and Breanna. Their first, Xander Dean, was born in 2020. That was four years after Mick’s divorce from former partner, Karissa Dalton.

And this good news for Fanning and his family comes directly after a terrible tragedy. A few weeks ago, Mick’s brother, Ed, died after a cut got infected while he was working as a surf coach in Madagascar. He was rushed to hospital, but he didn't make it. A ceremonial paddle-out was held in Ed’s honor at Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast of Australia.

“I know Ed is always with me,” Fanning penned. “The memories and good times we shared for so many years will always be with me. I give thanks for that.”

And Ed’s passing was just the latest heartbreak loss to hit the Fannings. Another one of Mick’s brothers, Sean, died in a car crash at the age of 20 back in 1998; and yet another brother, Peter, died from a medical condition in his sleep back in 2015.

“Congrats so awesome 💗” – Sierra Kerr

“Congratulations!!!! Omg she’s so precious” – Alana Blanchard

“Congratulations guys!!! What a special little human” – Laura Enever

Happy news.
