New Mexico's Largest Ski Resort Will Not Open Today

Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico, will not open today, citing high winds.

The resort noted in an Instagram update that it plans to open as usual tomorrow, with "great" weather in the forecast.

KRQE Weather reports that winds between 45 to 80 mph are possible across New Mexico today. Taos Ski Valley's website notes that its phone lines are down due to the wind. The resort's webcams aren't available, either.

At Taos Ski Valley, a winter storm warning is in effect, with NOAA predicting as much as eight inches of snowfall.

Unfortunately for local skiers, the longer-term forecast doesn't call for significant snowfall at Taos Ski Valley. The storms set to batter California aren't set to make it as far East as New Mexico.

Still, with four inches of snow in the past day—and more possible this afternoon—Taos Ski Valley isn't in an unenviable position.

Tomorrow, with relatively mild temperatures and clear skies, should deliver some excellent turns at the New Mexico-based resort, provided the wind hasn't made the snow conditions too funky.
