APPLETON - The owner of Alegria Mexicana in Appleton has opened a second location, offering breakfast and lunch options for early-rising customers.

Sandra Herrera opened T.D.A Café Tierra De Alegria in March in the former Hippie Wayne's Green Tomato Artisan Market and Kitchen location, 3402 Richmond St., Suite C.

Herrera said customers at Alegria Mexicana, 2171 W. Wisconsin Ave., would constantly request the restaurant to be open earlier in the day.

"T.D.A Café is open early in the morning for customers who might have to work or just wake up early," Herrera said.

The new café offers breakfast items like pancakes, skillets, breakfast sandwiches, and omelets — with Mexican and American twists on many dishes. It also serves lunch options including wraps, burgers, sandwiches and a build-your-own salad bar. On Fridays, the café serves fish-fry dinners.

Everything is hand-made in-house including Mexican pastries and desserts and fresh tamales, which can be purchased individually or by the dozen.

The restaurant's coffee bar serves an authentic Mexican coffee, Café Legal, as well as an authentic chocolate Mexican drink, champurrado. Champurrado is a warm, thick drink made with milk or water and masa or corn flour. At T.D.A Café, it's prepared with cinnamon.

"Both drinks are very different, nobody else has them in the area," Herrera said. "A lot of customers really like the champurrado, it's just something different."
