How to Get Meghan Markle's Effortless Nigeria Style

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's three-day visit to Nigeria wrapped up yesterday, and the Duchess of Sussex's fashion was a clear highlight.

On the second day of their trip, Meghan spoke about how she needed to wear more color to fit in with Nigerian women. "I very quickly got the memo that I need to wear more color so I can fit in with all of you in your incredible fashion," she said. "I am very overwhelmed. So I want to start by saying thank you very much for just how gracious you've all been in welcoming my husband and I to this country—my country." (Meghan learned via a genealogy test she has Nigerian heritage, which she shared on her Archetypes podcast.) So while her first day fashion featured more muted colors, on days two and three, she went for bolder colors and prints.

In terms of her jewelry, Meghan largely stuck to the same stack of bracelets: a tennis bracelet from Ariel Gordon, an evil eye bracelet from Lorraine Schwartz, a gold Cartier Tank Française watch (which possibly belonged to Princess Diana), and a Cartier "Love" bracelet. Meghan also embraced the trend of clip-on earrings, wearing vintage pairs from Lanvin and Dior.

Here, how to replicate Meghan's Nigeria trip fashion—just in time for summer 2024:

For their final event, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the Lagos Polo Club—and Meghan's outfit was reminiscent of what she wore to watch polo in Palm Beach last month. She wore a printed Johanna Oritz gown, Heidi Merrick sunglasses, and Burberry sandals she's owned since 2013.

For a meeting with the Governor of Lagos State, Babjide Sanwo-Olu, Meghan wore flowing yellow Carolina Herrera dress, which she previously wore when the Sussexes announced they were expecting their second child, and for Archie's first birthday (as seen in their Netflix docuseries). She accessorized with her Jennifer Meyer disc earrings (that she first wore in Jamaica earlier this year), plus a collar necklace from Aurate.

For an event at Ilupeju Senior Grammar School with the organization Giants of Africa, Meghan wore a Fal Wrap Skirt—made by Regalia by FAL with traditional Aso-Oke Fabric. She had received the piece as a gift from the Nigerian Diaspora Commission the day before, and paired the new skirt with a white Carolina Herrera blouse.

Meghan wore this necklace that featured her children's names, a sweet nod to her kids back at home.

For her only solo engagement of the trip, Meghan co-hosted an event focused on Women in Leadership with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization. For the occasion, she wore a red Oríré dress—the brand is designed and crafted in Lagos, Nigeria.

During a reception at Nigerian Defense Headquarters, Meghan wore a simple St. Agni column gown, vintage Dior clip-on earrings, and Aquazurra sandals. She also wore a diamond cross necklace that belonged to Princess Diana.

Day two of their Nigeria trip kicked off with a training session for Nigeria: Unconquered. For the occasion, Meghan wore a patterned Johanna Ortiz dress and Emme Parsons sandals.

Prince Harry and Meghan nodded to the Nigerian flag (green and white) during their formal welcome to the country at the Defense Headquarters in Abuja. Meghan wore an Altazurra blazer and pants, Manolo Blahnik suede pumps, and Ariel Gordon earrings. As T&C previously covered, the ivory suit is a very trendy royal look.

Just make sure that you are taking care of yourselves and that begins with your mental health by really talking about whatever's coming up for you.”
