Combine comfort and style with these easy-to-wear staples

Welcome to The Blueprint, where we highlight our favorite celebrity looks — and then pull pieces to help you get the look, too.

Some celebrity ’fits can be hit or miss, but Meghan Markle’s style? It’s literally my blueprint.

And over the weekend, the Duchess of Sussex wore what’s got to be one of my favorite looks to date. Prioritizing both style and comfort, she stepped out in an oversized button-up shirt, some comfy pants that were likely linen, and a pair of dressy yet flat sandals — all three of which are routinely rotated in and out of my seasonal lineup.

And it’s the same case for other stars, too: Button-ups are a fan-favorite among Chrissy Teigen, Oprah, Taylor Swift, and Jennifer Garner, while breezy pants (which are a jackpot alternative to heavier denim) reappear each year. This year, alone, Jennifer Lawrence, Martha Stewart, Nicole Kidman, and Emily Blunt have sported roomier bottoms. And foot-freeing sandals are always standard in warmer months.

When spring and summer arrive, I find myself wanting to wear as little clothing as possible to stay cool. But whenever I reach for a graphic T-shirt and some jean shorts, I never just feel put together in the way I want. Button-ups and breezy pants have the reverse effect, and they’re not heavy or thick, so I’m still comfortable and cool.

Button-ups and button-downs — the latter of which has a collar that can, surprise, be buttoned down — are a year-round thing: Mine reminds me of this one from Hotouch, which also has permanently cuffed sleeves, so it never looks messy and is one I wear with summer shorts or winter-proof pants. This one also has a hem that’s lower in the back for coverage over your bathing suits or skirts, and it comes in 31 colors and patterns.

Anrabess Wide-Leg High-Waist Palazzo Pants with Pockets, $31 (Save 5%)

You can choose from thousands of bottoms on Amazon, but I recommend the Anrabess Wide-Leg Palazzo Pants. They’re made of a linen-blend fabric for breathability, and they won’t stick to your skin, causing uncomfortable chafing. Also, one shopper described them as “the ‘It pant’ for vacay vibes,” and said that they were “super flattering.”

Steve Madden Hadyn Sandals

These Steve Madden sandals might just be my next buy: I love that I can slip them on and off in seconds when walking in and out of the house and that they look way nicer than a pair of thong flip-flops. They also have a baby heel and delicate stitching that looks more high-quality.

I always learn a thing or two from Meghan Markle’s style — and now, I’m confident that this breezy shirt, pants, and sandals combo is right on the money for spring and summer. Keep scrolling to shop more options under $65 now.
