Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will wait to announce their baby's birth, Kensington Palace says

On Wednesday Prince Harry excitedly announced that he’s working on a TV series about mental health with Oprah Winfrey. But when it comes to sharing news about the royal baby he and wife Meghan Markle are expecting any day now, he may be a bit less forthcoming.

On Thursday Kensington Palace shared that the couple plan to enjoy some private time with their new arrival before making news of the birth public. This is in stark contrast to Prince William and Kate Middleton. News that the duchess was in labor with their youngest son, Prince Louis, broke hours before the baby’s birth last April.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby,” a spokesman said.

“Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

According to Daily Mail royal correspondent Rebecca English, there will be no photo shoot outside a hospital — or home, if reports that Meghan is opting to have a home birth are true — just hours after the birth. Instead, they will reportedly wait two days before inviting photographers over. English also speculated that the couple may release their own photos on their new Instagram account, Sussex Royal.
