Denise Evans is a lifetime resident of Plain Township.

She is also a Realtor for Cutler Real Estate. She became a Realtor after being a stay-at-home mom for a few years and “accidentally” decided to enter real estate after a personal experience she and her husband had while attending an open house.

"We were treated very poorly at the open house," she said. "It was a life-changing career moment for me when I instantly knew I wanted to become a Realtor and treat people as I was raised that the customer is always No. 1."

Evans lives with her husband Dan and their dog Pixel. They have two grand-cats, MoMo and Moonshine. They are the proud parents of two sons, Brad, who is a photography coordinator at Walt Disney World, and Brian, who works with the Plain Township Parks Department.

She graduated from GlenOak High School in 1982 and Stark State College in 1984 with an AAB in business management. She completed Hondros Real Estate College in 2004.

She serves as the vocational chairperson for The Rotary Club of Plain Township, and alumni co-chairperson for the Plain Local Schools Foundation and Alumni Association.

Evans said she worked from the bottom up and eventually became president of the family’s fourth-generation business for 18 years, The Yohe Supply Co. The family owned the company through 1998.

"I learned lifelong lessons at the family company that I still carry such as treating people right, loyalty, a strong work ethic, respect and trust," she said. "My dad always said, 'You have to look yourself in the mirror each morning, and lay your head down on your pillow each night.' We each wore many different hats working there, doing whatever needed to be done. I learned to never say 'that’s not my job.'"

5 questions with Theresa Blocher: She's in the Ohio Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame.

Why do you enjoy selling real estate in Stark County?

Stark County is such an affordable place to live and to pursue that great American dream of being a homeowner.

Just about everyone can find the fit that is right for them. Our community has a great passion for sports, events and activities that all can enjoy all throughout the year.

Going into my 20th year as being a Realtor, I’ve loved meeting so many people, helping them all through their many different real estate needs, and developing customers for life. I truly try to be that Realtor who cares, and offers that very personal, one-on-one true customer service that I was raised on, and seems so hard to find nowadays.

What did it mean to you to be inducted into the Plain Local Schools Foundation and Alumni Association Hall of Distinction in 2016?

It was such an honor that I will always carry with me! I’m very proud to be a GlenOak grad, and I love being the foundation alumni co-chairperson and helping with our annual induction ceremony.

It’s awesome to meet fellow alumni, listen to their stories, and see the paths they have taken all over the U.S., the world, and right here at home. The foundation is a wonderful organization that helps support students, teachers and graduates in many different ways.

Personally, I award two scholarships each year to students furthering their education in American Sign Language or video production/photography. (Visit PlainFoundation.com to learn how you can help support.)

What are your three favorite things about Plain Township?

We have several beautiful Plain Township parks with so much to offer. My favorites are the amphitheater, pickleball, walking trails, Dog Park, and there are so many other things to enjoy.

I love seeing families outdoors enjoying the playgrounds, sports, picnic shelters and activities. We are so lucky to have all of this right in our own backyard.

I love the diversity Plain has to offer. We have people from all walks of life and all different income levels, who truly are friendly and kind to each other and care about and support our local community and small businesses. Our community is warm and welcoming, relaxed and safe. Our boys received a wonderful, well-rounded education attending Plain Schools that helped them prepare for the real world.

We have great leadership and services here in Plain. People work together to make Plain Township a wonderful place to live and enjoy. Everyone pitches in, including supporting community events, volunteering, collaborating and improving our township. I’m honored to be a volunteer with the Rotary Club of Plain Township, too.

What would your dream vacation be?

Somewhere that we haven’t been before, with both of our boys together, along with any close family or friends that would like to join in.

A warm, beautiful destination where we could try a new adventure that we haven’t done yet, and have no cares in the world and make wonderful memories. Some past adventures have included parasailing, zip lining, hot air balloons, roller coasters and helicopter rides. A sea plane adventure is the next on our list for this spring in the Florida Keys.

One for fun: Do you listen to podcasts? If not, what is your favorite phone app and why?

No, I don’t listen to podcasts.

I often watch real estate training videos, but right now my favorite app is Lingvano, as I am trying to become fluent in American Sign Language.
