After placing the winning bid in the Assateague Island Alliance's Name That Foal fundraising auction, Amy Navratil of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, dubbed this bay pinto colt, N2BHS-APTV, "Braveheart" for its courage and brave heart.

Navratil only recently discovered that the ponies had names.

"N2BHS-APT 'Morning Glory' was the first foal I got to see as a baby, and she quickly became my favorite. So, falling in love with her colt was very easy," Navratil shared with the AIA.

"I chose the name Braveheart because it means someone or something that displays exceptional courage, boldness and fearlessness often in the face of adversity or danger. I feel this is very fitting for him since he and his dam, 'Morning Glory,' spend time near the causeway being quite adventurous and, in an area where there can be heavy traffic. He definitely has a brave heart," Navratil added.

The AIA thanked Navratil for her donation and the creative name she has chosen.

"Thank you, Amy, for your generous donation and for offering this name. We are grateful to all of those that participated in the auction to name this wild Assateague foal which raised funds for the direct benefit of Assateague Island National Seashore," the AIA said in an April 2 Facebook post.

All financial contributions support AIA's mission to promote the awareness, education, and stewardship of Assateague Island National Seashore's wildlife and natural resources for the enjoyment of current and future generations, according to the non-profit's official website.
