McDonald’s Spin-off Cosmc’s Plans to Open Nine More Locations in 2024

McDonald’s is seeking to expand its popular new spin-off chain CosMc’s, CNN reports. The drink-forward chain, which opened the world’s first location in Bolingbrook, IL late last year, is McDonald’s strategy to combat slowing sales growth and draw in a younger demographic looking for Starbucks-style beverages and snacks.

So far, CosMc’s has worked at wooing younger customers. “It’s attracting more of that 22–29 age [group], people that want that afternoon pick-me-up,” Bolingbrook’s mayor, Mary Alexander-Basta, told CNN.

Sensing the excitement, McDonald’s is planning to open nine more CosMc’s restaurants throughout Texas by the end of 2024. The new stores will be popping up in the Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio metro areas in what McDonald’s is considering a larger test run for their spin-off brand.

McDonald’s did not immediately respond to questions from Men’s Journal regarding potential opening dates for the new locations, or whether CosMc’s planned to open more restaurants in the U.S. beyond Illinois and Texas.

If the appetite for CosMc’s in the Lone Star State is anywhere near as rabid as the one in Bolingbrook, which has had to change its traffic patterns to accommodate the influx of CosMc’s customers, it won’t be long before the chain expands to other parts of the country.

The opening of Bolingbrook’s CosMc’s has already seen people travel hundreds of miles and wait for hours on line to test out the new offerings. Many of the items hail from McDonald’s fabled international menu, which Americans in particular are always curious to experience.

CosMc’s was the most significant of several change-ups McDonald’s instituted last year. The venerable chain also announced unprecedented changes to their signature Big Mac and other burgers, brought back a breakfast favorite in certain markets, heralded the return of a beloved dessert, and made a pledge to become more affordable in 2024.
