Matthew Perry's 'Old Friends' Share Scathing Statement About His Ex-Fiancée

Matthew Perry

Shortly after Matthew Perry passed away on Oct. 28, his ex-fiancée, Molly Hurwitz, whom he was engaged to between 2020 and 2021, shared comments about the late actor that led some of his longtime friends to call her out.

During Hurwitz's tribute, she said that her relationship with Perry was "complicated," adding, "I obviously knew that man in a very different way, too. While I loved him deeper than I could comprehend, he was complicated, and he caused pain like I’d never known. No one in my adult life has had a more profound impact on me than Matthew Langford Perry."

After her comments, actress Rome Shadanloo shared a screenshot of an article about Hurwitz's statement and added in an Instagram Story, "Shameful when the grifters and the con artists speak for the dead. He hated this woman who tried to sue him. Shame on her for using him....again."

Parade has reached out to Hurwitz for comment but did not immediately hear back.

It's unclear exactly how Shadanloo knew Perry, but the actress' Instagram Story was then re-posted by "old friends" of the late actor, as he defined them himself, including photographer Randall Slavin, actor David Pressman and a man named Roger Castillo. The three men appear to have been friends with Perry for decades, as Pressman shared a bit of their history in his tribute to Perry.

Perry wrote a little about his relationship with Hurwitz in his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, although he never specifically wrote her name.

He said that he proposed to her while under the influence of drugs during a stay in rehab, writing, "I bought her a ring because I was desperate that she would leave me. I didn’t want to be this injured and alone during Covid. I was high on 1,800 milligrams of hydrocodone when I asked her to marry me."

"I had even asked for her family’s blessing. Then I’d proposed, high as a kite. And on one knee. And she knew it, too. And she said yes," Perry said.

The late Friends actor further recalled returning home from rehab, sober, and not remembering anything about their engagement, saying, "I was not ready for any of this...I didn’t remember — needless to say, we broke up." The engagement was officially ended in June 2021.

As of writing, Hurwitz has made her Instagram account private, and there have been no further comments from Slavin, Pressman or Castillo. Shadanloo's account is also private.
