Margot Robbie on "Birds of Prey" Costumes and Casting

"Real life isn't...one specific image. We've got to reflect that on screen."

There's a lot to be excited about when it comes to the upcoming standalone Harley Quinn movie, titled Birds of Prey. For one, it will be directed by Cathy Yan, the second woman ever to direct a DC Comics film (the first was Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins).

According to Margot Robbie, Birds of Prey is going to deliver a powerful feminist punch — and an inclusive one at that. The actor told Yahoo! Entertainment that representation matters a lot to when it comes to casting the film's other leads. "Yep, yes exactly, real life isn’t...one specific image," Margot noted. "We’ve got to reflect that on screen." And it's clear that audiences want to see inclusive casting in superhero movies (just look at the success of Black Panther as all the proof you need).

As for who will join Harley Quinn's side, that's yet to be determined — but there's plenty of speculation that Batgirl, Black Canary, and Vixen might make appearances as well. When talking about the film with Collider, Margot described the idea as an "R-rated girl gang film," adding: "I wasn’t seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space. So that was always a big part of it."

Oh, and that Harley Quinn Halloween costume that was literally everywhere in 2016? Prepare for it to get a total makeover. Margot told Yahoo! Entertainment that her character is getting "new looks" for Birds of Prey. And given everything we know about so far, we're pretty sure that Harley's updated costume will be just as badass as the rest of the film.
