Mango Launches Collaboration With Victoria Beckham

Over the past few years, Mango has been in growth mode, making moves to elevate its positioning in the market (and win over skeptical consumers). One of its flashiest strategies is taken out of the playbook of its direct competitors: collaborations. The Spanish fast-fashion retailer's approach has been unique in that it works with influencers and brands alike, from Camille Charrière to Simon Miller. And on Tuesday, it launches its most high-profile partnership yet.

Mango tapped Victoria Beckham to create a capsule collection, priced between $80 and $500, launching online and in select stores on April 23. It's partly inspired by Jane Birkin's character in 1969's "La Piscine," which informs the crocheted pieces and swimwear. (Beckham told Vogue she's drawn to "her sense of freedom and the natural beauty and ease she possesses. That essence is always something I like to bring into my collections and imagine in my customers as well.") It also draws from Beckham's brand and personal style, with its focus on tailoring, trousers, slips and other minimal silhouettes.

It's worth noting that the size range is limited, quite literally: The collection goes from XS to L and U.S. 2 to 10 (with many apparel pieces only going up to an 8), despite the fact that Mango does make and sell up to a 20.

The designer has done partnerships like this before, working with Target back in 2017 to offer her designs at more affordable prices (and in a wider range of sizes). The Victoria Beckham business has also been undergoing a transformation, becoming profitable after over a decade, following key investments, hires, category launches and buzzy media moments. As CEO Marie Leblanc told the Financial Times earlier this year: "We've closed what I call chapter one – building up a solid business backbone. Now we're moving into phase two, which is to leverage the brand. Now comes the exciting part."
