Mandy Moore has welcomed a new member of her family into the mix!
Moore, 39, shared a photo of the latest addition, a rescue dog named Marshmallow, this weekend on Instagram. Her oldest son, Gus, picked out the pup’s name.
“When we showed Gus a picture of him and asked what his name was, without hesitation he shouted ‘Marshmallow!’” the This Is Us star’s Instagram caption said. “Done and done.”
Moore explained that her nanny, Celina, found Marshmallow “several miles from here” as he was “wandering the streets.” The dog is believed to be 6 or 7 months old.
Moore celebrated Marshmallow as “the most unexpectedly wonderful addition to our gang,” though she noted that her cats were “nonplussed” and the family’s 14-year-old dog wasn’t yet convinced.
“We weren’t looking for another dog but he was looking for us and the fact that he looks remarkably like our dear Joni made it too impossible to ignore,” the A Walk to Remember actress’ photo caption continued, referencing her dog who died “very unexpectedly” in late 2020.
“Can’t wait for all of the adventures, sir!!” Moore wrote to close out her post, adding a hashtag urging pet adoption. Several of Moore’s fans who commented on her post praised her for taking the pet adoption route.
“Omg Mandy I’ve been a huge fan since a walk to remember came out when i was in 4th grade and the fact that you’re team #adoptdontshop is everything,” one fan wrote.
“Adorable!” said another. “Thank you for giving him a new home.”
“So adorable! The best additions are the ones you don’t expect,” another person commented.
Other fans applauded (and joked about) Moore’s decision to let her young son pick Marshmallow’s name. “I admire your ability to name the dog what came out of Gus's mouth,” one person wrote, adding a crying with laughter emoji.
Gus, whose full name is August Harrison Goldsmith, is Moore’s first son with her husband, Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith. They welcomed him on Feb. 20, 2021. The couple’s second child, Oscar Bennett Goldsmith, was born on Oct. 21, 2022.
