I’m marrying my GrubHub delivery driver — it was love at first knock

Fried pickles with a side of love? That's what ended up being on the menu for Hannah Bullerman, who decided to take a chance and ask her Grubhub driver out on a date.

This GrubHub customer got a side of romance with her delivery.

Hannah Bullerman was only expecting fried pickles and chicken wings at her doorstep — but love rang instead in the form of a “kind-eyed” GrubHub driver.

“It was so unlike me. I still can’t believe I did it,” Bullerman, 25, told People of their meeting two years ago. “But it was just a visceral feeling in my stomach. He just had very kind eyes.”

Alec Hoffman’s kind eyes and Bullerman’s leap of faith were the start of a love story, leading to an engagement and a wedding set for May 17, 2025.

“My friend told me you can’t just wait for someone to come to you,” Hoffman, 27, told the outlet. “Well, now I’ve got a great woman.”

Bullerman, an X-ray tech at the local hospital, was home sick with a migraine on the day of their initial meeting and placed a Grubhub order of fried pickles, chicken wings and applesauce for lunch.

“I didn’t want to make lunch and I happened to see I had a coupon for 20% off, and I love a good coupon,” she quipped.

Looking “kind of grubby and gross” due to being sick, Bullerman was “kind of stalking the driver’s moves on the app” while waiting for her food to arrive so she could time it right where she could sneak down to the lobby in her pajamas and quickly grab the food once the driver went back to the car.

But in a twist of fate, the driver began to call her rather than just dropping it off.

Bullerman thought, “shoot, he wants to give it to me in person.”

“I’m walking down the stairs and I see his face and was like, ‘Oh my gosh, he’s cute!'” she shared.

She made the interaction brief, quickly grabbing the food and thanking him before running back up to her apartment.

The Grubhub driver stayed on Bullerman’s mind — she couldn’t stop thinking about him.

“I was like, should I text him? I have his number. I didn’t want to come off creepy or really aggressive,” she admitted. “But I wanted it to be known that, hey, I would be interested in maybe going on a date or whatever.”

So she took a risk, sending a text thanking him and adding, “I hope you have a day as nice as your face,” and then immediately tossed the phone away from her because she “didn’t want to know.”

Meanwhile, Hoffman, who is also a home health care aide for veterans, was parked around the corner looking to see if there were more orders for him to deliver when the text came in and caught him off guard.

“I was like, this chick is kind of hitting on me,” Hoffman said, adding that he wasn’t completely sure she meant to text him. “I just said, ‘Hope my service was 10 out of 10’ and throwing in cheesy jokes so she knows that’s who I am.”

Though neither of them were actively looking for a significant other at the time, Bullerman figured they’ll “see where it goes.”

“She took the reins and good on her for that,” Hoffman added. “Nice and bold.”

Even their families shocked at the happenings: “My mom was like, ‘I’m just so happy for you, honey. Go have fun on your date,’“ Hoffman remembered. “The rest of my family was like, ‘Whoa! You got a date?’”

Their fast date, where they discovered they were both in the health care industry, consisted of a meal at a sports bar and bowling, and Hoffman won’t let his fiancé forget that he won the game.

“He does obnoxiously win a lot more than I do,” Bullerman said, admitting they are “a little competitive by nature.”

When they got engaged, the couple went on “The Drew Barrymore Show” where they shared their story and were gifted a honeymoon in Fiji.

On top of that, Grubhub gave the couple who met through the food delivery app a $5,000 contribution to the wedding budget.

The couple is now looking forward to their wedding and to spending the rest of their lives together.

“It was love at first sight for me,” Bullerman shared.

“Send that risky text, but don’t look too hard. I think people try too hard to find the right one,” Hoffman says. “At least in my case, the right one will come when you’re least expecting it.”
