I’m Keeping These Pottery Barn Linen Sheets on My Bed All Year Round (They’re So Soft!)

When you think of linen sheets, I’d wager that you’re in one of two camps: You love them, or you’ve never tried them. The latter is probably because you either assume they’re too rough or the price is a little too hefty. In my case, it was both. When it comes to bedding, I like everything to be as soft as possible — my mattress, pillows, blankets, and, of course, sheets. I’ve always ruled out linen in favor of classic cotton, but recently, I’ve been branching out in terms of material, putting a nylon-and-spandex blend and bamboo set to the test. (Both earned my stamp of approval.) Despite my hesitancy toward linen, my curiosity was piqued by how many of my AT colleagues swear by it, so when the opportunity arose to try out Pottery Barn’s set, I thought, ‘Why not?’

Leave it to an editor-loved brand like Pottery Barn to prove me wrong about linen. The store’s Belgian Flax sheets impressed me right out of the gate, even when it was still cold outside. What’s more, my bedroom looks more luxurious than ever thanks to the change. Read on to find out why I’m leaving them on my bed all summer — nay, all year — long.

What is the Belgian Flax Linen Sheet Set?

First off, why should you try linen sheets over other kinds? If you check out our Best List on linen sheets, you’ll discover the reason, but here’s the gist: Linen is durable and more long-lasting than cotton. Plus, it’s moisture-wicking, breathable, and temperature-regulating, so it works just as well in winter. With a range of 20 colors, Pottery Barn’s 100%-flax set offers the laid-back, natural look that linen is known for too. It’s prewashed, so it’s not incredibly rough straight out of the package, and gets softer after more rounds of laundry (with no complicated care requirements either). It fits mattresses up to 16 inches for an easy setup. Plus, in addition to being ethically made in a Fair Trade Certified factory, linen is also a more sustainable material than many others. Flax requires very little water to grow and doesn’t require pesticides. It’s also OEKO-TEX certified after being tested for over 1,000 harmful substances.

Why I Love the Belgian Flax Linen Sheet Set

I’ll admit that I went into testing this set with a few doubts, but I came out of the experience as a linen bedding convert. After an easy wash at the laundromat, I had no trouble putting the fitted and top sheet on my bed over my mattress and mattress topper. In fact, I appreciated that they had some extra length. (I’m sure we’re all familiar with the struggle of too-short sheets.) Even though they’re a bit longer, they’ve stayed fairly secure over the course of a couple weeks of use. Occasionally I’ve needed to retuck a spot, but there hasn’t been any major dislodging or bunching up.

Let’s get into the important bits: the feel and the look. I was immediately impressed with how it seemed to transform my bedroom. After all, my bed takes up a significant portion of it, and even when it’s unmade, the wrinkled, lived-in vibe appears way more put-together than other materials ever have. I especially love the off-white flax color paired with the woven texture, which fits in especially well with my subtle boho decor. As for the feel, it felt rougher than I was used to with cotton after the first wash, but significantly softer than I was expecting. It didn’t take much time to get used to it (or to start loving it). There’s also the fact that it has performed remarkably well during the transition from winter to spring. All night long, I felt just as cozy in 40℉ weather as I did in 70℉.

Needless to say, these sheets have become an instant staple in my bedding rotation, and I can’t wait to use them again and again over the summer. Trust me, I know that it’s a bit hard to swallow the high price point, but you really can’t beat the impact linen sheets will have on your quality of sleep and your space’s vibe. You can also snag the fitted sheet by itself for less than half of the full set’s price, FYI!
