I’m a Food Editor (and a Carb Queen)–This is My Favorite Bread to Pick Up at Costco

I have shopped at Costco ever since I can remember and I can say without a doubt that as far as grocery bread selections go, the one offered at Costco is unmatched. The bakery section is a fan favorite for a reason. The Costco croissants are buttery and flaky, the jumbo muffins are mega hits for a reason, the cookie at the food court is insanely good, and the iconic birthday cakes can satisfy any party crowd. Not to mention the bakery selection is huge, which delights my carb and wholesale club-loving heart.

Because the Costco bakery is gargantuan and the assortment is ever-changing, there are always new products to try. One particular bread has been the source of my happiness lately and it's shocking how quickly I go through a case on my own. My latest Costco bread obsession is the El Latino PandeBono Colombian-Style Cheese Bread.

Pandebono is a beloved bread native to Colombia made with tapioca flour, cornmeal, cheese and egg. At first glance it might look like a regular roll, but that couldn't be further from the truth. The high starch content from the tapioca flour gives each bun a dense, chewy texture—and also makes them gluten-free.

The cheese is worked into the dough, so you get big flavor with every bite. Each cheese bread is plush and savory with a hint of sweetness, which is everything I could possibly want in bread. El Latino PandeBono rolls are exceptional on their own, but they're out of this world extraordinary when paired with hot chocolate, as is commonly done in Colombian culture.

The package directions recommend baking the buns for 8-10 minutes at 350°F. Because I make these for myself and maybe one other lucky person, when I'm in the mood for pandebono I'll bake off a smaller batch in the air fryer at the same time and temperature. It works like a charm! You can store unbaked buns in an airtight container or Ziploc bag and place them in the refrigerator until you're ready to eat them.

Each pack includes 15 heat-and-serve buns and costs $19.67 at my local store. The even better news? Costco's carries other El Latino products, including the brand's Tequenos Cheese Sticks. I plan on adding these to my cart on my next Costco trip, and I suggest you do the same.
