Lupita Nyong'o Shares Cryptic Breakup Post About Heartbreak Caused by 'Deception'

Lupita Nyong'o shared an arcane statement on Instagram, seemingly hinting at the reason for her breakup with her now-former boyfriend, Selema Masekela.
The 40-year-old movie star posted a series of gray and white slides that only contained a series of text, which she then duplicated in the caption of Thursday's upload.
"There are much more important things going on in the world right now, and my thoughts are with those who are deeply suffering," she began in lengthy Oct. 19 statement. "At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust…"
As the Oscar winner continued, she noted that she found herself "in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception."
She further wrote, "I am tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I have regained my strength enough for me to say, 'Whatever, my life is better this way.' But I am reminded that the magnitude of the pain I am feeling is equal to the measure of my capacity for love. And so, I am choosing to face the pain, cultivating the courage to meet my life exactly as it is, and trusting that this too shall pass."
While not getting into too many specifics about her heartbreak, Nyong'o noted, "The promise, they say, is that a tender heart is what gives birth to fearlessness. I hope it’s true."
As for why she's opening up? Nyong'o explained that she was "hoping that the knowledge of my experience might be useful to someone else out there experiencing the grip of heartbreak who is poised to try and escape from the pain and miss out on the wisdom that comes from it."
She concluded, "Let’s face our pain so we don’t spread it."
The new post comes only one day after fans realized Nyong'o had removed all photos of Masekela–whom she was tied to for some time–from her social media page. The Black Panther actress was later spotted at a concert with Joshua Jackson, sparking rumors that Nyong'o may have a new man in her life. However, a source also told TMZ that Jackson–whose wife recently filed for divorce–and Nyong'o are just friends.
Masekela has not publicly addressed the breakup.
