Lupita Nyong'o Shares Video of Transformation Into 'Wakanda Forever' Character

The Oscar-winning actress plays the character Nakia in the Marvel franchise.

Lupita Nyong'o is an actress who has had many amazing roles throughout her career so far, with one of her most well-known performances being the character Nakia in the Black Panther films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

To celebrate the sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and its five Academy Award nominations, Nyong'o shared a behind-the-scenes video of her daily transformation into Nakia.

The clip, which she shared on Instagram, reveals the process to put on Nakia's hair, which many fans were surprised to find out wasn't actually Nyong'o's real hair. In fact, one fan even noted in the comments, "Wait hold up !! I thought that was your real hair !!! She did that."

The video shows hairstylist Camille Friend prepping Nyong'o's hair to go under a wig cap, before placing the character Nakia's hair over top.

Nyong'o shared a "fun fact," revealing that Friend "custom-colored the locs in what we called 'Nakia Red.'"

The actress added in the caption, "Appreciation post for our Oscar-nominated #WakandaForever Hair and Makeup Team led by Camille Friend (@camille_friend) and Joel Harlow (@morphology.fx)! You wear that nom well!! 🙌🏿❤️🎬 #BlackPanther."

Friend and Harlow are nominated for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, while Black Panther: Wakanda Forever also received Oscar nominations for Best Visual Effects, Best Original Song for "Lift Me Up," Best Costume Design, and Best Supporting Actress for Angela Bassett.

Friend wrote in the comments, "Thank you so much!!!! We are so excited about our nomination!!!!"

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about the movie late last year, Nyong'o talked about grieving the death of lead actor and close friend, Chadwick Boseman, and how director and writer Ryan Coogler honored him with the film.

She said of the final script, "Ryan wrote something that so honored the truth of what every one of us was feeling, those of us who knew Chadwick. He created something that could honor that and carry the story forward. By the end, I was weeping.”
