The Mandalorian and Grogu are headed to the big screen, and that’s not just an awkward way of including two Star Wars characters in the same sentence. Lucasfilm decided the movie’s name is The Mandalorian & Grogu, at least for now.

Mandalorian creator John Favreau will direct the film, and Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, will act as producers. Lucasfilm plans to start production on The Mandalorian & Grogu sometime in 2024.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said in a press release. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.

"Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen," Kennedy said.

After The Book of Boba Fett briefly delved into Grogu’s background as a Jedi in training, The Mandalorian Season 3 ended with Djarin officially taking Grogu under his wing as an apprentice and adopted son. What threats remain after Gideon’s death and what being Djarin’s apprentice entails are, presumably, topics that The Mandalorian & Grogu will tackle.

Lucasfilm also confirmed that Ahsoka Season 2 is currently in development, with Dave Filoni in the lead. That tidbit comes just a few days after Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson said she had no news of the studio’s plans for the hit series’ return, but Lucasfilm had nothing further to say on the matter other than that the season exists.

That's not all Lucasfilm has in store. Several Star Wars games are in development in 2024 as well, including Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws and an unannounced Star Wars strategy game.
