What should I look for in a sunscreen brand?

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Before Memorial Day Weekend begins, Dr. Pamela Morris from ECMC joined us to talk about sunscreen.

Protecting your skin from the sun, which has the potential to lead to cancer, is important. Dr. Morris recommends applying sunscreen every two hours and making sure that any skin that’s exposed to the sun gets covered. When swimming, people should consider hourly application.

But what kind of sunscreen? Dr. Morris recommends something with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. No product will guarantee you full protection, she says, but SPF 30 will give you 96-97 percent protection.

There are certain chemicals Dr. Morris recommends avoiding when choosing sunscreen, and she elaborates on that more in the video above. Watch it for helpful tips before spending time outside this weekend.
