Handsome household mats and entryway rugs are hard to find. For one thing, we don't need funny, punny, or seasonally-charged words on our welcome mat; the statement we prefer to make comes by way of good design. Many good entry rugs are too small and quick to fill up with wet boots and shoes, but to find larger sizes, you're often stuck investing in a runner. Larger format durable doormats can read too "utility," or "garage entry," or, simply, look aged after one season with stains and deep-set dirt. Norwegian brand Heymat looks to change all that. And, after trying one of their best-selling products, Sand, we have to agree: this is the rug we've been looking for all along.

What makes Heymat so great?

  • First of all, the actual rug material feels great underfoot. You'll see in the gallery below that some consumers use them at the base of their stairs or as an accent rug. Just because you're looking for an entryway rug or welcome mat doesn't mean that the indoor floor mats won't be a great fit in high-traffic areas like your kitchen or bathroom.

  • Heymat has a sustainability mindset. 90% of the products are made with 100% recycled materials (PET). Synthetic fibers are also highly durable and easy to clean.

  • The outdoor doormats are great at stopping dirt and grit, and again, as we've been using Sand daily. It's a resilient material. It takes a lot for it to look dirty.

  • Sand is a Heymat+ product, meaning when it is dirty, it cleans easily with a vacuum or a good shake. For more thorough cleaning, the garden hose can rinse the fibers. Whether you're tracking fall leaves or winter slush into your home, the non-slip backing will protect the underlying surface and keep your floors clean.

  • Heymat original products can go into the washing machine. This applies to many of the indoor rugs, like Løype Breezy Beige and the very nice Loom Bauhaus Brick.
