Little Dog’s First Trip to the Car Wash Is Met with Curiosity and Wonder

We all remember the first time at the car wash. It was so cool! But also a little scary, right? Well one Maltese-Shih Tzu (or Mal-shi as they're sometimes known) recently got to go through the wash for the first time. And his response to the experience was too precious for words.

Cruz looked like he'd entered Narnia. He'd never seen anything like the car wash before and it showed.

In a video shared on his TikTok page, Cruz the Menace, the dog was stunned in the backseat of his mama's car. He kept looking around as the giant bristles and soap surrounded their car.

He's like, "mom, what's going on? Where are all these suds coming from?"

It looks like mom was sitting in the front seat capturing the whole hilarious incident as it happened.

"Car wash trip with mommy," she wrote in the video's caption.

The comments section was cracking up. "She looking around like: 'what the h—l is going on here???'" one person joked. "Her head is about to spin 360 degrees," a second commenter teased. "I know how the baby feels because I’m not too fond of a car wash either!" another commenter admitted. "Puppy saying to much is going on right now," kidded another person.

All About Mal-shis

Cruz is a special hybrid pup, half Maltese and half Shih Tzu. Malteses were once a status symbol for ancient Greeks, while Shih Tzus were once companions to Chinese emperors. Mix them both together and BOOM, you've got a Mal-shi.

Though they both have historical roots, the hybrid mix is relatively new. Both Malteses and Shih Tzus are small, social, easy-to-care for breeds. They're both low shedders and most Mal-shis only weight about 6 to 12 pounds. Their size is actually atypical from both breeds that they come from. Malteses are usually only 4 to 6 pounds, while Shih Tzus usually weigh anywhere from 9 to 12 pounds. Adult Mal-shis usually only grow up to be about 10 inches in height.

Mal-shis don't need a ton of exercise, but they do need a lot of playtime and need to be brushed daily. Because they're a hybrid, their appearance can vary — although Malteses tend to have long, white coats with button noses, which many Mal-shis can inherit. Mal-shis can also come in an array of colors like white, brown, gold, black, or even blue. Mal-shis are good for people with allergies because their low-shedders. But be forewarned, no dog is completely hypoallergenic.

Most importantly, Mal-shis are absolutely adorable. We can understand the need to document all of their special moments — like going to the car wash for the first time.
