Let’s peek inside the Sky Club at Miami’s airport. We hear Celia Cruz and smell a buffet

Delta is offering travelers at Miami International Airport some new comforts as the airline keeps growing in the region.

On Tuesday, Delta unveiled a remodeled Sky Club, a VIP lounge for frequent fliers and other programs.. Travelers on LATAM, a Delta partner since 2022, also can benefit.

The lounge renovations started in December and final touches were made Monday. The space opened to travelers on Tuesday.

The upgraded Sky Club features about 50% more space, totaling over 12,000 square feet. The lounge can now seat 307 people waiting for their flights, 112 more than before.

A free buffet serves up Latin specialties. . Beer is on tap. Two showers are available.

Delta has Sky Club lounges at more than 50 locations, including Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, that allow travelers to relax or work. The carrier is planning new lounges in 2024 at La Guardia, JFK, Charlotte, Seattle, Los Angeles and Boston.

The Miami lounge is all about the heartbeat of the 305.

The amenities in the expanded lounge are geared to business travelers, including single-seat dining and lots of outlets to charge electronics.

The remodeled Sky Club comes as Delta has made a push to increase activity at the Miami airport and connect North America and South America.

In December it added four new domestic flights from Miami, including a new route to Minneapolis-St. Paul and increasing service to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. Those additions came at the end of a year-long growth plan: Delta concluded last year with 37 domestic flights out of MIA last year, an all-time high.

That happened after Delta finally received regulatory approval in 2022 of its partnership with LATAM Airlines Group. LATAM formed in 2012 by the merger of Chile’s LAN airline and Brazil’s TAM carrier.

Now that Delta has a large partner to take travelers to much of Latin America, the airline is looking to better connect the continents. Delta expects fliers on LATAM connecting on Delta to be big users of the new Sky Club.

At a ribbon-cutting on Tuesday, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said Delta is now MIA’s second busiest airline. “We cherish their partnership and commitment to a brighter future in Miami-Dade County.”
